View A dress finishes around the knee with a gathered skirt panel.
View B is a boxy-silhouette blouse with a wide hem & side splits.
Ability level: Advanced beginner
Size range: 9-12m - 8yr
Recommended fabrics: light to mid-weight linen, cotton lawn, voile, double gauze or poplin
Required machines: regular sewing machine & an overlocker (serger)
Required trims: 6mm (1/4") wide elastic for sleeve cuffs - approx 0.5m/0.6yd, 0.5mm (<1/4") wide non-stretch stay tape to stabilise the gathered neckline (or you can use self fabric or any lightweight non-stretch woven fabric).
Sewing techniques used to create this style: Self bias binding is sewn around the gathered neckline which also forms the front ties. The centre front seam is double neatened so that the front neck appears clean finished when worn open. The sleeve hems are double turned to create the elastic channel. The rest of the garment is made up of gathering, regular straight stitching & overlocked (serged) seam allowances.
