An essential unisex baby & toddler woven summer outfit consisting of a simple loose-fitting boxy top & harem shorts.

Downloadable PDF pattern - print at home on A4 or US letter. A0 copy shop/large format file is also included. Both files are layered and colour coded.

Pattern is intended for personal use only and cannot be used for commercial purposes

Download includes detailed photo instructions. There are 7 colour pages of instructions - you may prefer to read directly from a device instead of printing.

Short Sleeve Top - has a self bias bound neckline, shoulder snaps, a front patch pocket & side splits. It is a wide boxy fit with drop shoulders - a great style for chubby babies and toddlers! For slender children, you may wish to size down, or just embrace the boxy silhouette!

Harem Shorts - has an elasticated waistband with non-functional waist tie, back patch pocket & crotch gusset enabling plenty of movement for wriggly little legs. These shorts are designed to fit over a nappy but can also be worn by toilet trained children, though we recommend sizing down if worn over underpants (see photos for fit when worn over nappy vs undies).

Size range: 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m, 1yr, 2yr, 3yr, 4yr

Ability level: Beginner

Required machines: a basic sewing machine & overlocker (serger). Shorts have optional buttonholes for non-functional waist tie.

Both the A4/US letter & A0 PDF patterns have layers and sizes are colour coded! Sizes can be turned on and off using Adobe Reader. Please read the printing instructions before printing the full pattern.

Required trims:
View A Top:
- 2-3x 10mm (16L) 4pc snaps (or substitute with buttons)
- Interfacing for view A shoulder placket & view B buttonhole reinforcement - approx. 10cm x 10cm (4”x4”)
View B Shorts:
- 1.2cm (1/2”) wide cotton twill tape for non-functional waist tie x 35cm (14”)
- 30mm (1 & 3/16”) wide elastic for waist - approx 0.6m/0.7yd for largest size

Sewing techniques featured:
Top - this is a very simple top consisting of straight stitched & overlocked seams. The trickiest part of the garment is the self bias bound neckline. Full colour photo instructions take you through it step by step.
Shorts - A very simple style consisting of straight stitched & overlocked seams. The waist is double turned to create a casing for the waist elastic to be threaded through. Buttonholes for non-functional waist tie are optional.

Recommended fabrics: Lightweight cottons such as lawn, poplin & double gauze. Light to mi-weight linen & linen blends.
Softer fabrics like vintage washed linen & double cotton gauze will have wonderful drape for the top while stiffer fabrics will accentuate the boxy silhouette.

Sizing:
The patterns are designed to fit an above-average sized child (around the 75th percentile) for the year that matches their age. For example, if the child is an above average-sized 18 month old, a size 1yr will still have some room to grow. In most cases there is no need to size up unless the child is at the very top end of the growth charts. If the child is small, do consider sizing down, or expect that the fit will be generous.

Boy model is 2.75 years old, 96cm tall and very chunky in width! He is wearing a size 3 top & shorts with a nappy.

Girl model is 4.5 years old, 109cm tall, medium build and wearing a size 4 top & size 3 shorts over underpants. For toilet trained children, consider cutting once size smaller (or expect that shorts will be baggy around the crotch area).
