A versatile little dress pattern that can be sewn as a pinafore in the winter or as a summer dress. All views feature a full gathered skirt with elasticated side waist & in-seam pockets (for size 2yr & above). View A has button or snap fastenings at the shoulders while views B&C have a single button & split at the back neck. View C is the same as view B, but with an added ruffle around the bodice.
Size range: 9-12m - 8yr
Ability level: View A = Beginner, View B = Advanced beginner, View C = Intermediate
Sewing techniques involved - sewing a channel at the side waist for the elastic, sewing in-seam pockets, bagging out the self-lined neckline & armholes (view A method is quite straight forward, while views B & C uses the burrito method). The rest of the garment is made up of straight stitching, gathering & overlocking.
This is quite a good style for those without an overlocker. The side seams & pocket bags can be french seamed while the rest of the garment is bagged out. The elastic channel & hem are double neatened for a clean finish (though they can be overlocked and stitched if you are looking for an easier construction). Please note that french seams are not covered in the sewing instructions.
Trims required: 30mm wide elastic (approx 0.3m/0.35yd), 2x 15mm/24L buttons or 4pc snaps (view A only), 1x 10m/16L button (views B & C only)
